About me

Travel, culture, interviews

During a 20-year career in journalism, I’ve written for most of the UK’s national newspapers, both as an award-winning travel journalist and on stories ranging from training with big-wave surfers to plastic pollution. I’m a regular contributor to The Sunday Times and The Telegraph, Financial Times and The Guardian. Magazine bylines include The Sunday Times Travel Magazine, Condé Nast Traveller and Wanderlust. Broadcast credits includes BBC Radio and the occasional TV documentary. I'm also an experienced public speaker and panellist.

As well as winning awards for individual features, I was named Freelance Writer of the Year at the TravMedia Awards 2020.

I write about:
Travel. Especially adventure travel, everyman extreme activities or journeys rooted in bigger ideas.
Human interest. Interesting people doing interesting things, ordinary people doing extraordinary things.
Innovation. I’m interested in challenges and change.
The sea. On it, in it, under it, by it. I'm not fussy.
